Using A Digital Billboard

Outdoor media has long been a strong tool for targeted advertising needs. The visibility of a billboard allows businesses to ensure their message is seen. It’s rare that you to go without spotting one, whether on the highway or on surface streets. But does this mean that every company looking to advertise should use this as an option?

The different types of billboards

First, let’s distinguish between digital and static billboards. A static billboard is made of vinyl. This means that it cant be changed for the duration of its lifetime without associated fees. Digital, on the other hand, is electronic, and can be changed as many times as you like.
You can also run more than one ad on a digital billboard. The convenience doesn’t come cheap, though. Digital ads are generally more expensive than their unchanging counterparts. While both options have their benefits, it may be difficult deciding which suits you best.

Who benefits most from digital ads?

As stated, you can change a digital ad as many times as you’d like during its lifetime. Companies constantly updating info for their target audience would benefit most from this. Bill cites a car dealership as a prime example. “Let’s say you’re a car dealer and you want to advertise 20 different models with lease prices. You can’t put that on a static billboard.”
You’re digital options, though, give you the flexibility to advertise each easily. If you’re copy is going to need a lot of updates, digital is the option for you!

Jason Sirotin:

Hi, I’m Jason Sirotin. Today I’m speaking with Bill Hobbs, who is the owner and proprietor, managing director, everything of Effortless Outdoor Media which is a outdoor media advertising placement company. Bill, what type of business should be using a digital billboard?

Bill Hobbs:

Yes. On a digital billboard, the type of businesses that would advertise and take advantage of that new technology is any type of business that needs to change the copy on a regular basis, or somebody who needs multiple designs on a billboard. So let’s say you’re a car dealer and you want to advertise 20 different models with lease prices. You can’t put that on a static billboard, traditional billboard. On digital, you can have 20 different messages that are looping through, and every minute, you’ll have a new design that comes up with a different car. So it’s somebody who needs to change the copy frequently is going to be using a digital billboard.
