Hi, I’m Jason Sirotin. And today I’m speaking with Bill Hobbs, who is the owner and proprietor, managing director, everything, of Effortless Outdoor Media, which is a outdoor media advertising placement company. I’ve been hearing a lot about this, but I have no clue what they are. What are smart digital billboards, and are they coming to us?

Bill Hobbs:

Smart digital billboards are where you use different things, like the weather and you use temperature, you use traffic patterns. So, a billboard could say, let’s say the traffic’s stopped, you would say, “Tired of sitting in traffic? Exit now to get something to eat.” Or if it’s under 40 degrees, you could say, it’s cold outside, you could say, “Reliable Heating & Air will keep you warm.” Or if it’s over 90 degrees, you could stay, “Stay cool with Reliable Heating & Air.” So, it’s the type of thing where they’ll have some that have the weather. So, you could actually have weather alerts on the billboard. It’ll say the temperature, time and temperature, things like that. And there’s actually advertisers that only use time and temperature on the billboard. And they’ll put, “Weather sponsored by Horsetown Western Wear.
